Posting a VoiceThread Video

VoiceThread is an interactive, multimedia-based discussion tool that can be used to replace or supplement the Blackboard Discussions tool. This article provides instructions for how to post a VoiceThread video on the web and using a mobile device.

VoiceThread on the Web

The following video demonstrates how to post a VoiceThread video on the Web using your computer. Text-based instructions are below the video.

  1. Navigate to the VoiceThread video assignment.
  2. Click the VoiceThread assignment. The VoiceThread tool displays.
  3. In the upper right-hand corner of the page, click the “Add your own” button.
  4. Click Create a new VoiceThread.
  5. Click Add Media.
  6. Select the type of media to upload (e.g., Webcam Video).
  7. If prompted with an Adobe Flash Player Settings security warning, click Allow.
  8. After the 3-2-1 countdown, begin recording your video.
  9. When you’re finished recording. Click the red stop button.
  10. Click Save.
  11. Type a descriptive title and click Save.
  12. Click Share and Return to Course.
  13. Click the Submit/Share with [Course Name] button.

VoiceThread on a Mobile Device

The following video demonstrates how to post a VoiceThread video on a mobile device using the VoiceThread mobile application. Text-based instructions are below the video.

  1. Download and install the VoiceThread mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play (Android). Open the VoiceThread app.
  2. The first time you use the app, tap Settings and change the Domain from the default to jhu.voicethread.com. Tap Save.
  3. On the Account screen, tap Sign In. Type your JHED Login ID and Password and then tap Login. Next, tap Create in the lower left-hand corner. Then tap add. Then tap the video camera icon. The first time you use the VoiceThread app, you’ll need to give it permission to access your camera and microphone. After the countdown, VoiceThread begins recording through your front-facing camera.   5. Tap Create in the lower left-hand corner.
  6. Tap add.

  9. Tap Save.
  10. Type a descriptive title for the video asset that makes sense for the assignment type, such as first name last name introduction and tap Save.
  11. Tap Done.
  12. Tap Title again to give the VoiceThread a title and tap Save.
  13. Scroll down and tap Share.
  14. Select VoiceThread Groups. Select the classroom group with whom you want to share the video you just created. Then tap Save.
