What is Zoom?
Zoom is a cloud-based platform for video and audio conferencing, mobile collaboration, and simple online meetings. Zoom’s web-based conferencing uses high-quality video and audio and is accessible on MacOS, Windows, Android, and iOS mobile devices. Anyone in the world can join a Zoom meeting but only a host can start/schedule meetings.
If you have any difficulty joining a meeting or configuring your audio and video, contact the EP Help Desk at ep-help-desk@jhu.edu for assistance.
1. Join a Meeting
Every Zoom meeting room has a unique URL. As the meeting host, your instructor will make this URL available to you either via e-mail or from within Blackboard.
- After clicking the meeting’s URL, you’ll be prompted to download and run Zoom. A zoomusLauncher.zip file will download. Note: If you’re not automatically prompted to download Zoom, you can download it from https://zoom.us./download.
- Click the file and install the launcher.
Watch the video below for more details on joining a Zoom meeting.
2. Configure Your Audio and Video
Once you join a Zoom meeting, you’ll need to configure your audio and video. Watch the video below for details on how to configure/test your audio and video.
3. Meeting Controls
Once you’ve joined a Zoom meeting, there are a range of controls that can be used, such as muting and unmuting your microphone, enabling/disabling your video camera, and chatting with fellow student participants. Watch the video below to learn more about Zoom’s meeting controls.
